Several other tools are included under the “Build Content” menu (e.g. Audio, Image, Video and Web Link.) These tools save a few steps but we recommend you use the “Item” tool until you are more familiar with Blackboard.
The main problem with the more advanced tools is that they typically launch immediately when the student advances to them. This means they might miss your instructions or added information unless you advise your students to turn off “popups.” Since “Items” require the student to launch links within the page itself, it is one less problem for both you and your students.
Blackboard has a built-in calendar that will help you provide your students keep track of important dates within your course. You can schedule:
- Office hours
- Assignment due dates
- Guest speakers
To access the calendar, select Course Calendar under the Course Tools menu.
Note that you can see events for your institution, your personal calendar and all of your courses.
